What is the secret of every successful female leader or entrepreneur? Many life factors can influence our journey to self-discovery and growth in both our personal lives and careers, and the way we measure success is very individual.
Change the way you look at things and the things you look at change.” ― Wayne W. Dyer
We all have our personal definition and vision of success based on our own goals. For some women entrepreneurs, it may be monetary wealth and financial growth. While, for others it may be emotional prosperity and mental well-being. Regardless of these differences, success derives from your mental attitude and the ability to best apply your skills. Both these variables have a significant impact on our work performance, relationships, and generally, the world around us.
Your Mental Attitude = Your Powerhouse
Attitude can be our best friend, but if it is not nurtured or managed appropriately, it could be our worst enemy. It doesn’t matter what situation your business is in nor what you are personally undergoing, BUT what does matter is how you choose to react to these circumstances. Your reaction to problems will reveal your attitude and your qualities as a female leader in your career and business. Are you a tyrant and highly demanding? Are you proactive and communicative?
The point is this: your projecting attitude will affect everything and everyone around you.
As a female entrepreneur or career woman, you come to work and collaborate with many individuals and teams. Of course, not every project flourishes as you have planned 100% of the time, but adopting a negative attitude won’t help matters. Not to mention, nobody wants to work with or for someone that projects negativity when the going gets tough. As a business woman, leadership means maintaining control of your reactions and channeling your energy appropriately.
Keeping your cool, as they say, could help create a more productive work environment as it would be much easier to collaborate with your colleagues, partners, and team members.
No one else “makes us angry.” We make ourselves angry when we surrender control of our attitude. – Jim Rohn
It is within our control to monitor and manage our attitude in any personal or business situation. Developing a positive attitude can effectively prompt the leadership skills within us – but you must take the lead within yourself. We can get out of many mental patterns that hinder our performance, channel our energy productively and bring success directly to our doorstep.
At the end of the day, your mental attitude is everything. Being a female leader means believing in your business, maintaining a positive outlook on your brand, and being able to network your energy in a proactive manner to get your desired outcome.
Being a successful woman means learning how to develop the right mindset to empower your leadership potential. So how can you adjust your attitude for success?
How To Develop a Positive Attitude for Success
Define your goals
This may seem obvious but, sometimes our business goals are vague – wealth, prosperity, popularity, etc. – with no actual details or established milestones. So, it’s with your best intention to be crystal clear and organise your short-term and long-term goals for your business. AND commit yourself! Distinguish company priorities, narrow them down and then try to do them all according to your schedule. Set your milestones to achieve your goals!
Start visualising
Where do you see yourself or your business next month or in a year? Have you ever visualised the future of your business or career path? Imagine yourself accomplishing a goal you’ve set up for yourself. Many psychologists talk about the power of visualisation and how many successful people have used it to achieve their desired goals. Consciously or subconsciously many of us do this in our everyday lives. But, make it a conscious effort to visualise your goals and create a timeframe of reaching them to keep a positive outlook and attitude on your business.
Don’t dwell on what “if”
Yes, yes we all go through “what if” stages. “What if I fail, what if I lose money?” The fear factor is very common even amongst inspirational women leaders. But, if you begin adopting a fearful mental attitude, this may lead to a downfall in business and hamper your career. Leadership means blocking those thoughts and being optimistic about your venture. Focus on what is going on at this present moment, and do not create fear because the “what IF’ just might never happen. Turn your mind back towards faith in yourself and focus on your business’s success.
Have an “attitude of gratitude”
Be grateful for what you have… Nobody says that you shouldn’t ask for more or have high expectations. However, do appreciate the little things, and you will see that the bigger things that will arrive are actually a result of smaller things you appreciated.
Enthusiasm is a must-have quality for a positive attitude to motivate yourself towards accomplishing your goals. Start your day with a smile, be confident, say more thank you and please. Politeness, acknowledgment, and gratitude all play a role in keeping optimistic to attract progressive outcomes.
Be around positive people
Whatever we want to do in life, it’s inevitable that we will have people acting negatively towards our goals, business ventures, and personal lives. Many powerful women entrepreneurs faced adversities and criticism from outsiders, but look where they are now – at the top! So, your idea may not be approved by others, but don’t forget that the road and accomplishment of your plan are known by you and your devoted team.
People may tell you that “you cannot do it,” “you will fail,” “you will not do well”… Try surrounding yourself with people who have a positive attitude. It will uplift you mentally and drive your business or idea into something amazing.
And last…Don’t get upset
You will work with different teams and individuals as you build your business or department. Keep in mind that not everybody is capable of doing the project or task as you may have intended. Do not adopt a negative attitude or react without thinking. Learn to step back and see if from your team’s perspective. Was there something that wasn’t understood correctly? Most of the time, communication is what can hinder the completion of a task or project. So, don’t pull out the negative attitude card – think like a leader. Try to assist your fellow collaborators and understand the problem rather than judging them or getting upset.
Being a leader is knowing how to think and react when there are problems to overcome. Having the right approach and attitude are necessary components to being successful in your career or business. Most importantly, the right attitude is the most important ingredient for happiness.
