Hi everyone, my name is Farah. I’m the Managing Director of quite a large five star resort hotel, private 237 berth marina, seven restaurants, award winning spa and a residential luxury hotel condo tower. I am a mother of three kids, with the youngest being under 1, and I’m a vegan.
Now before you stop reading, I’m not a ‘typical’ vegan. What do I mean by that? Well, I’m not here to tell you that everything you’ve ever eaten is sinful and bad and destroying the planet. In fact, I want to break the connection between that preconceived idea of irritating vegans to one that is actually likable and interesting. Hence, one of the reasons I started Cook Vegan.
Originally, a Facebook group that started off during the first lockdown, I am now expanding slowly to other social media platforms after having reached nearly 5000 members on Facebook in a very short time, and more importantly than that, receiving tens of thousands of posts and impressions per month. The members are all very active and about half are not even vegan.
So what is Cook Vegan and why do so many people want to be part of it? Well, it’s a community where we aim to inspire all members with healthy, easy, quick and nutritious plant-based meals. It’s for everyone, whether you are a working, busy parent or retired with plenty of time on your hands. I aim to share my real-life experience about being vegan, how I gain all my nutrients and ensure my family and kids all eat well too, while making tasty recipes that everyone can enjoy.
Many times, it’s a family effort and I have kids yapping away in the background or breaking glass pots of raisins while we bake cakes. It’s real. A real cooking guide for real people. It’s part of the reason I’ve delayed launching the Instagram account as my photos are not ‘insta-worthy’ and we don’t want them to be. It’s about being honest and genuinely wanting to share knowledge about what it means to be healthy. What it means to feel good about what you eat. What it means to know what you eat. And what it means to help the environment and animals as you do it.
I would encourage you all to visit Facebook, to join, and YouTube, to subscribe to our wonderful and growing community, whether you are vegan or not, for some delicious and healthy recipes. I also interview dieticians, nutritionists, restaurant owners, chefs, entrepreneurs, doctors and so much more, all exclusively on the group and YouTube channel. So you are bound to learn something too. As the interviews are live on the Facebook Group, you can also ask questions as we go along.
As for why would you Cook Vegan, the answer is simple… why not? It’s easy, affordable, good for you, good for the plant and good for animals.
I promise to not annoy you!
Here is a simple recipe for you to start with cooking vegan. Try it!
